This elegant, sweet-tart Italian-style sauce is made by reducing balsamic vinegar over low heat and balancing it with honey and olive oil. Drizzle it over salads and grilled vegetables.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Reduce the vinegar

10 min

Bring the balsamic vinegar to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook until it has reduced to about half its volume and thickened.

2

Add the honey

2 min

Remove the pan from the heat, add the honey, and stir until it dissolves in the hot vinegar.

3

Whisk in the olive oil

3 min

Once the mixture has cooled slightly, slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking. Season with salt and black pepper.

Reminder

Allergen: In its basic form, this sauce contains no common allergens. Important: Stay by the stove while reducing the vinegar; it can thicken too much and burn quickly. Add the olive oil after the mixture has cooled slightly, not while it is hot, to prevent it from separating.
