Simmer the Apples
5 minPut the apple slices, ginger, cinnamon stick, and water in a pot and bring to a boil.
This traditional Turkish winter drink is made by simmering apples with ginger and cinnamon, straining them, then sweetening the liquid with sugar. It can be served hot or cold and makes a warming snack-time beverage.
Put the apple slices, ginger, cinnamon stick, and water in a pot and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce the heat and simmer for 30 more minutes, until the apples are soft.
Strain the mixture, lightly mashing the apples to extract all their liquid.
Stir the sugar and lemon juice into the strained liquid. Let it steep for 15 minutes, then serve.
After simmering the drink, let it steep for at least 15 minutes so the ginger flavor becomes more pronounced.
