Momo is a steamed dumpling that spread from the Himalayan foothills to major cities in India. It is made by wrapping spiced cabbage and carrots in thin dough. The pleated seal helps keep the filling inside while steaming. Made with just a few ingredients, these dumplings are an affordable, filling lunchbox option.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the filling

15 min

Salt the cabbage and carrot and let them sit for 10 minutes. Squeeze out the liquid by hand, then mix with the garlic, ginger, onion, cumin, and olive oil.

2

Fill and seal the dumplings

15 min

Place a 5 ml measure of filling in the center of each wrapper. Pleat the edges and pinch them closed, then twist and pinch the open ends into a pointed shape.

3

Steam the dumplings

15 min

Arrange the dumplings with space between them in a greased steamer basket. Cover and steam over boiling water.

4

Serve

1 min

Remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve hot.

Reminder

Squeeze the vegetables thoroughly to remove excess liquid; otherwise, the dough may soften and tear during steaming.

Sebzelerin suyunu tuzlayıp iyice sıktım, mantılar buharda hiç yırtılmadan pişti ve içi sulanmadı.
