Made by heating butter with tomato paste, this sauce is a classic breakfast topping drizzled over menemen and boiled eggs. Cooking the paste in butter for a few minutes deepens its color and intensifies its flavor.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Melt the butter

3 min

Melt the butter in a small skillet over medium heat until foaming.

2

Cook the tomato paste

5 min

Add the tomato paste and Turkish red pepper flakes. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring constantly, until the paste thickens and turns a deeper red.

3

Adjust the consistency and serve

2 min

Add the water and stir for 2 more minutes, until the sauce is pourable. Serve hot.

Reminder

Do not turn the heat up while cooking the paste; high heat can burn it quickly and make it bitter. Allergen: contains dairy (butter).

Tereyağı yerine elimde olan sadeyağla denedim, kavurma süresi yine aynı 5 dakikada tamamlandı ve sonuçta tat beklediğimden çok daha yoğun bir tereyağı hissi verdi, epey beğendim.
