China's light dessert soup, tang shui, is made by steeping dried osmanthus blossoms in syrup and combining them with longan and mixed fruit. Served cold, it travels well in jars and fits neatly into a lunch box.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Steep the syrup

15 min

Bring the water and sugar to a boil, remove from heat, add the osmanthus blossoms and let steep for 15 minutes.

2

Strain and cool the syrup

30 min

Strain the steeped syrup through a fine sieve and let it cool to room temperature for 30 minutes.

3

Prepare the fruit

15 min

Slice the peaches, remove the grapes from their stems, and cube the melon, dividing everything among serving bowls.

4

Combine with the syrup

25 min

Pour the cooled syrup over the fruit and chill for another 25 minutes before serving.

Reminder

Let the syrup cool to room temperature before pouring it over the fruit; hot syrup softens the fruit and ruins its texture. Contains no listed allergens.
