Halushky is a quick Ukrainian home dish made by dropping small pieces of soft dough into boiling water, then tossing them with leftover browned meat. Cutting the pieces to the right size with a spoon is the trickiest part.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the dough

8 min

Mix the flour, egg, water and salt into a soft, slightly sticky dough.

2

Boil the dough pieces

10 min

Drop 1-2 cm pieces of dough with a spoon into boiling salted water and cook until they float.

3

Sauté the onion and leftover meat

7 min

Sauté the chopped onion in butter until softened, then add the leftover browned beef.

4

Toss with the boiled dough pieces

5 min

Drain the boiled dough pieces and toss with the meat in the pan, warming through for a few minutes.

Reminder

If you drop pieces that are too large, the centre stays doughy; don't exceed hazelnut size. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), egg, milk and dairy (butter).

Hamuru kaşıkla kaynar suya atarken ilk denemede çok büyük parçalar bıraktım, ortası hamur gibi kaldı; ikinci seferde 1-2 santim çapında bölünce içi tam piştim. Kavurmayı tereyağında biraz fazla kavurunca daha lezzetli oldu.
