A vegetarian patty made by kneading boiled dried beans with onion, parsley, and spices, then baking. Prepared without the hassle of deep-frying, this recipe comes to the table as a meze or snack.
Mash the boiled dried beans with a fork in a bowl, add grated onion, spring onion, breadcrumbs, cumin, red pepper flakes and salt, and knead well.
Pinch off walnut-sized pieces from the mixture and shape into patties, arrange on a baking tray lined with parchment paper.
Drizzle the patties lightly with olive oil and bake in a preheated oven until golden on both sides, flipping once halfway through.
Important: If you wet your hands lightly while shaping the mixture, the meatballs won't stick to your hands. Allergen: contains wheat (breadcrumbs). Turning the meatballs once partway through baking browns both sides evenly.
If you add finely chopped fresh onion alongside a pinch of cumin and red pepper flakes to the mixture, the flavor of the meatballs becomes noticeably richer.
