Sauté the onion
5 minIn olive oil, sauté finely chopped onion until softened.
A light and nutritious leafy green vegetable dish where chard is cooked in olive oil with rice and onion. This recipe, in which both the leaves and stems are used, is an economical and practical everyday option.
In olive oil, sauté finely chopped onion until softened.
Add finely chopped chard stems and sauté for a few minutes. Note: Add the stems before the leaves, otherwise the stems stay tough while the leaves overcook.
Add the chard leaves, rice, water and salt, then cook over low heat until the rice is soft.
Serve at room temperature with lemon squeezed over it.
Important: Separate the chard stems from the leaves and cook the stems first, as the leaves soften much faster. Allergen: contains no common allergens.
Finely chopping the chard stems and adding them a few minutes before the leaves, rather than at the same time, improves the cooking balance.
