Mash the figs
8 minMash the stemmed, ripe figs coarsely with a fork or in a blender.
Overripe, softened figs are mashed with chili flakes and lemon juice and thickened with chia seeds. Made without any cooking and set in the fridge, this spread is a sugar-free way to use up leftover figs.
Mash the stemmed, ripe figs coarsely with a fork or in a blender.
Stir the chili flakes, lemon juice and cinnamon into the mashed figs.
Sprinkle in the chia seeds and mix well, then let it sit at room temperature for 10 minutes so it starts to gel.
Transfer to a jar and chill in the fridge for at least 20 more minutes; the mixture reaches full set in this time.
Chia seeds can clump right after mixing, so remember to stir a couple of times during the first 10 minutes. This recipe contains no known allergens.
