A frequent guest at Turkish gatherings, this savoury cake bakes a dough generously spiced with kaşar cheese and pul biber. Sliced and served both at breakfast and tea time.
Whisk the egg, yoghurt and olive oil together. Add the flour, baking powder and salt to form a smooth batter, then fold in the grated kaşar cheese and pul biber.
Pour the batter into a greased and floured loaf tin and smooth the top.
Bake in an oven preheated to 190°C for 35 minutes, until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
Letting the cake cool in the tin for 10 minutes before turning it out keeps it from falling apart when sliced. If the centre still looks wet, leave it in the oven for another 5 minutes. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), milk and dairy, egg.
You can adjust the amount of pul biber to taste; for a sharper heat, add a little ground red pepper alongside it.
