A classic frothy Turkish ayran whisked from yogurt, water and salt. This refreshing drink, the most natural companion to meals, is especially indispensable alongside kebab, pilaf and börek tables.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Whisk the yogurt smooth

2 min

Whisk the yogurt in a large bowl with half a cup of water until smooth. Avoiding lumps is important for the ayran's consistency.

2

Whisk until frothy

3 min

Add the remaining cold water and salt and whisk with a mixer or whisk until frothy. Pour into glasses and serve cold.

Reminder

Important: For frothy, smooth ayran, thin the yogurt first with a little water, then add the rest of the water. Contains dairy. It tastes best fresh; it can be kept in a covered container in the fridge for a day — whisk again before serving.
