An icon of Jamaican street food, this curried beef patty is made by wrapping curry-spiced ground meat in puff pastry and baking it, whether in the oven or an air fryer. Crisp outside with a spiced filling inside, it makes a hearty one-bite snack.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Make the filling

12 min

Cook the onion and garlic in oil, add the ground meat and once browned season with curry powder, thyme, chilli flakes, salt and pepper, cooking until the liquid evaporates; sprinkle in the breadcrumbs to bind the filling.

2

Fill the pastry

8 min

Cut the puff pastry into rounds, spoon the filling onto one half of each, brush the edges with beaten egg, fold over and seal by pressing with a fork.

3

Cook

12 min

Arrange the egg-brushed patties on parchment in the air fryer basket and cook at 180°C for 12 minutes until golden; without an air fryer, bake them for the same time in a preheated oven.

Reminder

Do not crowd the patties in the air fryer basket — without airflow the bottoms stay doughy. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten) and egg.
