Grilled plantain is a sweet side dish that accompanies large Cuban family barbecues, made by turning ripe plantains in their skins directly over the charcoal until they cook through. With no added sweetener, the fruit's own sugars concentrate over the coals.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the plantains

3 min

Poke a few holes in the skins of the ripe plantains with a fork.

2

Grill over charcoal

30 min

Place the plantains, skins on, over the coals and grill for 30 minutes, turning occasionally, until the skin turns fully black and the inside is completely soft.

3

Serve

5 min

Peel the plantains, sprinkle with cinnamon, drizzle with lime juice and serve hot.

Reminder

Poke a few holes in the plantain skins with a fork before placing them on the coals; otherwise, trapped steam inside can make the skin burst suddenly.

Muzları çok az delik açarak köze koymuştum, ikisi çevirirken hafifçe patladı ama 30 dakikanın sonunda içleri harika pişmişti; bir dahaki sefere daha fazla delik açacağım.
