A soft homemade cake with a marbled look, achieved by swirling vanilla and cocoa batters together. With its plain flavor and moist texture, it's a classic, universally loved recipe for tea time.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the filling

8 min

Whisk the eggs and sugar until foamy. Add the milk and vegetable oil and mix, then sift in the flour, baking powder, and vanilla to form a smooth batter.

2

Divide in half

4 min

Transfer about a third of the batter to a separate bowl and add the cocoa, mixing well. If the consistency becomes too thick, add a tablespoon of milk.

3

Pour into the pan and pattern the top

3 min

Pour the vanilla batter into the greased pan first, then pour the cocoa batter on top. Dip a fork in and swirl gently to create a marble pattern. Note: Do not overmix.

4

Bake

40 min

Bake in a preheated 175-degree oven for about forty minutes, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Slice once cooled.

Reminder

Lightly swirling the cocoa and vanilla batters together with a fork as you pour them into the pan creates the marble pattern; overmixing will erase the pattern. Contains gluten (flour), egg, and milk. Slice the cake only once it has cooled completely; it stays fresh in a sealed container for three days.

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

For the cocoa version, it's enough to add cocoa to part of the mixture; add a tablespoon of milk if needed to maintain the consistency. Tapping the mold lightly on the counter removes air bubbles.
