A dessert with a slightly crisp outside and syrupy inside, made by baking dough prepared with corn flour and combining it with cold syrup while still hot. A beloved recipe of Gaziantep cuisine, this dessert also stands out for how easily it's made.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the dough

10 min

Mix the cornmeal, milk, egg, sugar, melted butter, and baking powder until smooth.

2

Bake in the oven

35 min

Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake in a preheated oven until golden on top.

3

Prepare the syrup

10 min

Boil the sugar, water, and lemon juice, boil for a few minutes, then remove from heat and let cool.

4

Slice and soak in syrup

10 min

Cut the hot dessert into baklava-shaped slices; drizzle the cold syrup over it little by little. Note: pour the syrup in a few batches rather than all at once so it spreads evenly.

Reminder

Allergen: contains dairy, egg, and wheat flour (gluten). Important: The syrup must be cold and the dessert fresh and hot out of the oven; if both are the same temperature the syrup won't soak into the slices enough and the dessert will stay dry.

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

Cutting the slices to an even thickness before putting them in the oven ensures both an even baking time and that they absorb the syrup at the same rate.
