This compote simmers sliced pears with a cinnamon stick, cloves and lemon over low heat. Relying on the fruit's own sweetness instead of added sugar is what makes it both heart-friendly and diabetic-appropriate.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Prepare the pears

10 min

Peel the pears, quarter them, remove the cores and slice.

2

Bring to a boil

5 min

Put the sliced pears in a pot with the water, add the cinnamon stick, cloves, lemon juice and zest, and bring to a boil.

3

Simmer gently

15 min

Lower the heat and simmer with the lid on until the pears are tender, then remove the cinnamon stick and cloves.

Reminder

Remove the cinnamon stick and cloves once the compote is off the heat; leaving them in too long adds a bitter edge.

Tarçın çubuğu bulamadığım için yarım tatlı kaşığı toz tarçınla yaptım, kokusu biraz daha yoğun oldu ama tadı değişmedi. Şekersiz olması annemin diyabeti için tam aradığımız şeydi.
