From Puebla, Mexico, this cemita sandwiches thin, tenderized beef steak that has been breaded and fried, layered with roasted pepper sauce, avocado, and mozzarella in a round roll. Each component is prepared separately, making this a hands-on sandwich to assemble.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Make the Sauce

10 min

Blend the roasted red pepper with the red pepper flakes until smooth. Set aside.

2

Prepare the Steak

15 min

Dredge the beef steak first in flour, then in beaten egg, and finally in breadcrumbs.

3

Fry

15 min

Heat the cooking oil until hot and fry the steak until golden on both sides. Drain on paper towels.

4

Assemble the Sandwich

10 min

Cut the roll in half and spread the roasted pepper sauce on the bottom half. Layer on the mashed avocado, hot beef steak, mozzarella, red onion, and cilantro, then close the sandwich.

Reminder

Make sure the oil is hot before frying the steak; in lukewarm oil, the coating may come loose. Assemble the sandwich while the steak is still hot so the mozzarella softens slightly. Allergen: Contains wheat (gluten), milk and dairy products, and egg.
