Sandwiches, burgers, and wraps
A hearty recipe for Izmir-style meatballs, made by shaping ground beef kneaded with bread and spices, cooking it with potatoes in tomato sauce, and serving it in a loaf of bread. An easy dinner to share with the family.
Knead the ground beef with breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, egg, and cumin, then shape it into flat meatballs.
Brown the meatballs in a little oil over medium heat for 2–3 minutes per side, until lightly browned on the outside.
Arrange the potato slices in a baking dish and place the meatballs on top. Pour over a sauce made with grated tomatoes and tomato paste, then cook over low heat for 15 minutes.
Fill the loaf with the meatballs, a potato slice, and plenty of tomato sauce, then serve.
Important: Lightly brown the meatballs before adding them to the tomato sauce so they hold their shape; otherwise, they may fall apart in the sauce. Allergens: contains gluten (breadcrumbs and loaf bread) and egg.
