A classic New Zealand burger is made with a grilled beef patty topped with a fried egg, sliced pickled beets, lettuce, and tomato. It is a familiar favorite at backyard barbecues.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Shape the patties

5 min

Gently mix the ground beef with salt and black pepper without kneading. Shape it into 4 equal patties and press a shallow dimple into the center of each.

2

Grill

8 min

Cook the patties on a preheated grill for 8 minutes total, 4 minutes per side.

3

Fry the eggs

3 min

Fry the eggs in a separate skillet for 3 minutes, leaving the yolks runny.

4

Assemble the burgers

3 min

Layer the lettuce, patty, fried egg, pickled beets, and tomato slice on the bottom half of each bun. Cover with the top half.

Reminder

Before placing the patties on the grill, press a shallow dimple into the center of each with your finger; otherwise, they may puff up and become round as they cook. Fry the egg with a runny yolk, which acts as the burger’s sauce. Allergen: Contains gluten (bun) and egg.
