A Colombian perro caliente is an extra-loaded street-style hot dog made by placing a boiled sausage in a bun and layering it with pineapple sauce, mayonnaise, mustard, and crushed potato chips. Balancing the many sauces and toppings takes a bit of finesse, and the result makes a showstopping party dish.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Cook the sausages

10 min

Boil the beef hot dogs in boiling water for 8 minutes, then drain.

2

Prepare the sauces

15 min

Simmer the crushed pineapple with its juice in a pan for 5 minutes to thicken it. In a separate bowl, mash the tomato into a sauce.

3

Assemble the hot dogs

20 min

Place a sausage in each bun and add the mayonnaise, mustard, tomato sauce, and pineapple sauce in that order. Sprinkle the onion and shredded cheese on top.

4

Serve

10 min

Sprinkle the crushed potato chips over the hot dogs and serve immediately.

Reminder

Add the sauces in order: mayonnaise and mustard first, followed by the pineapple sauce. Otherwise, the layers may blend together and look messy. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), eggs (mayonnaise), and milk (cheese).
