Sandwiches, burgers, and wraps
An easy American family favorite, the sloppy joe is made by cooking ground beef in a sweet-and-sour tomato sauce and spooning it into a soft hamburger bun. Named for its “sloppy” filling that spills out of the bun, this quick dinner is also popular with kids.
Sauté the onion and pepper in oil over medium heat for 6 minutes.
Add the ground beef and cook for 8 minutes, breaking it up as it cooks.
Add the tomatoes, ketchup, brown sugar, and vinegar. Simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, until thickened, then adjust the salt.
Fill the hamburger buns with the mixture and serve hot.
Store the sauce in a covered container in the refrigerator for 3 days; keep it separate from the buns.
