Spiced minced meat is mixed with dried apricots and almonds and topped with an egg-and-milk custard before baking in this South African classic, its mildly sweetened curry flavour making it a main dish children enjoy too.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Brown the mince

15 min

Sauté the onion in olive oil, add the ground beef and cook until it browns.

2

Add the spices and fruit

8 min

Stir the curry powder, flour, salt, chopped apricots and sliced almonds into the mince and cook a few minutes more.

3

Transfer to the baking dish

5 min

Spread the mixture evenly into a greased baking dish.

4

Top and bake

35 min

Whisk the milk and eggs together, pour over the mince and bake in an oven preheated to 180°C for 35 minutes, until the topping sets and browns lightly.

Reminder

Bake the dish uncovered; if it is covered with foil the egg topping will not puff up and brown nicely. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), dairy, egg and tree nuts (almond).

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

Leaving out the dried apricots gives the dish a less sweet, more savoury spice profile; increasing the curry by half a spoon in that case keeps the balance.

Kuru kayısı yerine kuru üzüm kullansam tatlılık oranı çok mu değişir, yoksa 35 dakikalık fırınlama süresini ve 180 derece sıcaklığı aynı mı bırakmalıyım, çocuklar için tadı fazla mı tatlı olur?

Kuru üzüm kullanırsanız tatlılık biraz artar ama 180 derece ve 35 dakika aynı kalabilir, sonuçta ikisi de benzer nem oranına sahip; çocuklar için tatlılığı azaltmak isterseniz köri miktarını biraz artırabilirsiniz.
