Prepare the pears
3 minBrush the cut sides of the halved pears with the lemon juice.
Grilled pear is a light snack made by halving pears and grilling them until lightly caramelised, then turning leftover bulgur pilaf into a crispy topping in a dry pan. Needing no extra fat or added sweetener, it sits somewhere between a heart-healthy dessert and a whole-grain snack.
Brush the cut sides of the halved pears with the lemon juice.
Toast the leftover bulgur pilaf with the cinnamon in a dry pan, stirring constantly, for 8 minutes until crisp, then set aside.
Grill the pears cut side down over medium heat for 9 minutes until the edges are lightly caramelised.
Arrange the grilled pears on a plate, sprinkle with the toasted bulgur crumble, drizzle with honey and serve.
Choose pears that are not overripe, or they will fall apart on the grill. Stir the bulgur constantly while toasting, or it will brown unevenly and some of it will burn. Allergens: this recipe contains none of the main allergen groups.
If you do not have leftover bulgur pilaf on hand, you can boil and drain two handfuls of raw bulgur to get the same texture; this adds 10 minutes to the prep time.
