A comforting Armenian home dish, panrkhash is made by soaking stale bread in warm milk and butter, then melting plenty of cheese through it on the stovetop until soft. Its gentle texture makes it an easy snack for young children to eat.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Soak the bread

10 min

Break the stale bread into small pieces and soak in the warm milk, letting it sit for 10 minutes to soften.

2

Cook in butter

8 min

Transfer the soaked bread to a pot with melted butter and cook over low heat with the salt, stirring, for 8 minutes.

3

Melt the cheese in

5 min

Add the grated kashar cheese and stir constantly over low heat for 5 minutes until fully melted and the mixture turns into a smooth bowl of bread and cheese.

Reminder

Melt the cheese in over low heat; high heat will split the fat and ruin the texture. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten), milk and dairy (milk, butter, cheese).

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

Do not oversoak the bread or the dish will turn to mush; keeping it slightly firm preserves the texture.
