Turon is a crisp Filipino street snack made by wrapping ripe banana in a spring roll wrapper, coating it in sugar and frying until caramelised. Getting the sugar to caramelise on the wrapper without burning takes real skill, or it leaves a bitter taste. It offers a sweet texture that kids can enjoy easily.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Wrap the rolls

15 min

Roll the halved banana in brown sugar, place it at the edge of the wrapper and roll tightly to seal.

2

Fry

12 min

Heat the sunflower oil over medium heat and fry the rolls until caramelised and golden on every side.

3

Serve

3 min

Drain the rolls on paper towels, let them cool for a few minutes, then slice and serve.

Reminder

Fry the rolls over medium heat; high heat burns the sugar quickly and leaves a bitter taste. Allergens: contains gluten (wrapper).

Editor's Note Editörün Notu

Adding a few slices of jackfruit alongside the banana gives it the tropical flavour typical of Filipino markets.

Ruloları 12 dakika yerine tam 15 dakika kızarttım çünkü ilk denememde şeker yeterince karamelize olmamıştı, bu sefer renk gerçekten çok daha koyu ve iştah açıcı oldu.
