Bring the milk to a boil
5 minBring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan, keeping a close eye on it so it doesn't boil over.
A classic German baby breakfast, Grießbrei is a simple porridge made by stirring semolina into milk and thickening it over just a few minutes. No sugar or honey is used to sweeten it; the semolina's own mild sweetness is enough. It's one of the first foods introduced to babies from 6 months old.
Bring the milk to a boil in a small saucepan, keeping a close eye on it so it doesn't boil over.
Sprinkle the semolina slowly into the boiling milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps.
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes until thickened, stir in a pinch of salt and remove from the heat.
Let the porridge cool to lukewarm before serving; serving it hot could burn your baby's mouth.
Always test the porridge's temperature on the inside of your wrist before feeding your baby. Do NOT use honey to sweeten it for babies under 1 year old, as it carries a botulism risk. Allergens: contains wheat (gluten, semolina) and milk.
