A traditional drink of the Central Asian steppe, talkan is made by roasting wheat, crushing it, and mixing it with hot water. Plain and whole-grain, it comes together quickly as a filling breakfast beverage.

Step by Step

How to make it?

1

Roast the wheat

8 min

Spread the wheat grains in a single layer in the airfryer basket and roast at 200°C for 8 minutes, shaking the basket occasionally. If you do not have an airfryer, you can roast it in the oven at the same temperature for the same time, stirring occasionally.

2

Crush

1 min

Once cooled, crush the roasted wheat in a mortar or blender into a coarse powder.

3

Mix and serve

1 min

Stir the crushed wheat into the hot water, add the honey, and serve.

Reminder

Stir the wheat occasionally while roasting; grains left in one spot burn and leave a bitter taste. If you do not have an airfryer, you can roast it in an oven preheated to 200°C for the same time, stirring occasionally. Allergens: contains gluten (wheat).
